The Translucent Geometric Shapes Class Set is an ideal resource for teaching students about geometry and spatial awareness through hands-on exploration. This set includes one teacher-sized set of large geometric translucent shapes and two student-sized sets, with a total of 12 large shapes and 144 small shapes. The large demonstration-sized shapes measure 10cm high (except the hemisphere, which is half the size) and come in 6 colours. This allows students to easily compare relationships between area, volume, and size. The set features a variety of shapes including cubes, rectangular prisms, pyramids, cylinders, spheres, and more, all perfect for whole-class demonstrations. The removable caps on each shape allow students to fill them with liquids and compare volume relationships between shapes.

The student-sized sets each contain 72 small shapes (5cm each), with 6 of each shape in 6 different colours. This enables students to work in small groups and engage in independent learning while following the teacher's instructions. The translucent properties of the shapes further enhance learning opportunities by allowing students to perform additional activities like sorting, matching, and examining shapes from various angles. By comparing shapes to everyday objects, students can explore the number of faces, edges, and vertices each shape has, helping to deepen their understanding of 3D geometry concepts.

Educational Benefits:

  • Facilitates the understanding of 3D shapes, including volume, area, and form.
  • Encourages the exploration of the relationships between 2D and 3D shapes.
  • Promotes collaborative learning through group activities with small and large sets.
  • Enhances spatial reasoning and geometry skills through hands-on activities and visual aids.

Classroom Ideas:

  • Use large shapes for teacher-led demonstrations on geometric relationships, then let students explore with smaller sets.
  • Incorporate volume experiments by filling shapes with liquids to compare volumes.
  • Encourage students to identify and compare shapes to real-world objects.
  • Have students trace the outlines of the shapes to compare 2D and 3D forms, enhancing visual and spatial understanding.
