This dual time clock is a perfect resource to teach children both analogue and digital time. The analogue and digital time are always synchronised. Both can be adjusted to any time and the other will automatically reset to the same time in 3 seconds. A great feature of this dual time clock is that it comes with a sliding, removable ˜covering plate'. This covering plate can cover either side of the clock, so that children can be asked to write down the covered time. This makes it an ideal resource to teach the concept of digital and analogue time.

Teaching the time is an important part of the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics. This dual time clock is an ideal tool to teach the time. Because it displays both analogue and digital time, it can be used for multiple parts of the maths curriculum covering the concept of time. Let your students read the time on an analogue and digital clock in one and let them observe the characteristics of half-hour times. Compare 12- and 24-hour time systems and convert between them, or let students read the analogue time and let them write down the digital time or vice versa. This dual time clock is a versatile teaching aid that can be used for different levels. Start with easy time reading skills like half-hour times and gradually go up in difficulty by telling time to the minute. The covering plate makes it possible to only discuss one type of time reading at a time, either analogue or digital, so that students won't get confused. By removing the covering plate, you can increase the difficulty. The dual time clock can be used as both a wall clock and a table top teaching aid. The digital time can be set to either 12 or 24 hour formats. 2x AA batteries are required (not included).

Educational Benefits:

  • Helps children clearly understand the correlation between analogue and digital time formats.
  • Develops time-telling accuracy, from whole hours to minutes, supporting time progression in the curriculum.
  • Promotes cognitive flexibility by enabling conversions between 12-hour and 24-hour time formats.
  • Encourages independent problem-solving and observation through hands-on interaction and time estimation.

Classroom Ideas:

  • Use the covering plate to hide one side of the clock and ask students to write or draw the corresponding time.
  • Set different times and allow students to convert between analogue and digital formats as part of group challenges.
  • Use the clock in daily routines for real-time learning-e.g., œWhat time is lunch? or œHow many minutes until recess?
  • Assign time-based scenarios where students must set the clock to demonstrate events occurring at specific times.
